[Daily Photo] Inside the blacksmith's shop /

Share this :
This photo was taken inside the Cotswold Forge at Greenfield Village (located in Dearborn, Michigan). The Forge was built in Snowshills, England in the Cotswold region in the 1600s, and was reconstructed in the Greenfield Village in 1931. Blacksmiths made and repaired iron tools in this Forge. You can see how many tools they had for blacksmithing.

[Daily Photo] Inside the Ford home /

Share this :
I was in the replicated house of Henry Ford in Greenfield Village (in Dearborn, Michigan). The famous Henry Ford was born in this house. When I was visiting this house, two enthusiastic older ladies dressed in the style of 300 years ago acted as tour guides.

[Daily Photo] Antique lathe /

Share this :
I took this photo of an old lathe (a machine tool) in Thomas Edison's Menlo Park Machine Shop in Greenfield Village (located in Dearborn, Michigan). There are many antique machines preserved in Greenfield Village and some are still working. Items in the Village such as signs are made by these old machines.

[Daily Photo] Beautiful country field /

This country field photo was taken in Greenfield Village (in Dearborn, Michigan). I like the cloud in the center of this photo which is like a flower blooming in the sky.

[Daily Photo] Steam train at Greenfield Village /

Share this :
This photo of a steam train was taken at the Firestone Station in Greenfield Village (in Dearborn, Michigan), a historical village owned by The Henry Ford. You can buy a pass to take a ride on this train which loops around Greenfield Village.

I also took the following two videos of this steam train using my Nikon D7000 camera. I hope you will like it!

[Daily Photo] Port Huron Steam Engine /

Share this :
I went to Greenfield Village next to the Henry Ford Museum (in Dearborn, Michigan) last week. They collect and preserve many old-time agricultural equipment in the village just like this one -- the Port Huron Steam Engine, a steam-power tractor made by the Port Huron Engine & Thresher Company. It can generate from 19 - 65 horsepower. Farmers used it to power their machine or pull/push farm equipment.

I found the following footage on YouTube from Captkordite showing how this engine works.

[Daily Photo] Inside the Henry Ford Museum /

Share this :
This photo was taken inside the Henry Ford Museum (in Dearborn, Michigan). Seeing the exhibition inside is like seeing the whole of automotive history. I chose a small aperture (F/8.0) which not only helped me to get the large depth of field, but also created the cool "star burst" effect to the light source. The drawback is, in this circumstance, the shutter speed will be very slow. Therefore, I suggest using a tripod to prevent blurring.

[Daily Photo] Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk Flyer /

Share this :

This is a replica of Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk Flyer, the first motorized airplane in the world. I took this photo in the lobby of the Henry Ford IMAX Theatre. Do you know which direction is the front of this airplane? The answer is the "right side". The part that looks like a tail wing is actually the head of this airplane.

[Daily Photo] 1960 Slingshot dragster in Henry Ford Museum / 60

Share this :
This photo was taken in the Henry Ford Museum (in Dearborn, Michigan). The vehicle in this photo is the 1960 Slingshot dragster built by Sam Buck and Bob Thompson. The driver seat is located on the top left of this photo. In the center of the photo you can see the engine (Ford V-8, L-Head valves, 320 cubic inches), and on the bottom right a gas tank.

By the way, I love the Henry Ford Museum because it's a very friendly museum. They allowed me to use tripod to take photos inside the museum (as long as I didn't block the other visitors), so I can get bright and clear photos just like this one by using HDR Photography.
