This photo was taken in Mammoth Hot Springs of Yellowstone National Park. What I like about these terraces is that they are actually living things. The water of hot springs breed numerous lives.

[Daily Photo] Firehole River in Black Sand Basin, Yellowstone / 黃石公園的火洞河

This beautiful place is Black Sand Basin of Yellowstone National Park. The small river is named Firehole River, which refers to not only the abundant hot springs along the river, but also the big forest fire that burned this area.

There are two major waterfalls on the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park —  Upper Falls (109 feet) and Lower Falls (308 feet). Upper Falls is upstream of Lower Falls. I took this photo from the top of the Upper Falls, where a beautiful rainbow appeared on the waterfall.

It was a beautiful day. We were on the boardwalk in Black Sand Basin, Yellowstone National Park. In many hot spring or geyser areas of Yellowstone, visitors can only stand on the boardwalk or the observation deck.

[Daily Photo] Shadow of a photographer

This photo was taken at Yellowstone National Park. The shadow in this photo is, as you can guess, me. We were visiting West Thumb Geyser Basin that morning. When walking on the boradwalk, at first my attention was focusing on the scene of the Yellowstone Lake on the far side, then I looked down and found that my shadow on the ground was really interesting. So I took this photo.

[Daily Photo] Sapphire Pool in the Biscuit Basin, Yellowstone / 黃石公園的Sapphire Pool

I took this photo in Biscuit Basin, Yellowstone National Park. The hot spring in this photo is Sapphire Pool. Just as its name says, the center of the pool has a deep blue color. I remembered when I was walking on the boardwalk beside some hot springs, sometimes the hot steam blew toward me, so I had to dodge the steam to protect my camera. It was really a memorable experience.

This photo was taken at Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. The pool in this picture is Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in Yellowstone and second largest in the world. It's so huge so that it's nearly impossible to take a full picture of it from the boardwalk beside it.

大稜鏡泉---黃石公園內最大的溫泉(全球第二大)，大到站在步道上無法照出他的全貌。

This photo was taken at West Thumb Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. You can find Yellowstone Lake at the far end of this photo. It was a beautiful morning and this place was the first stop of our Yellowstone journey. We also found a group of Canadian geese on the shore of Yellowstone Lake.

[Daily Photo] On the way to Lamar Valley

I took this photo from our car on the way to Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park. The Lamar Valley is on the right side of this photo, which is the habitat of buffaloes. We ended up having a good time seeing several herd of buffaloes in this valley.

This photo was taken at Yellowstone National Park. In the evening, a lot of elks were gathered around the lawn in front of Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, and they were totally not affraid of people. We were excited when we found them because they were so close. Therefore, we drove slowly and circled the lawn to observe them. I was using my telephoto lens to catch this closeup shot. This bull elk was taking a rest after having dinner.

[Daily Photo] Bicolor hot spring in Yellowstone National Park

This colorful hot spring photo was taken at Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park. It really shows how incredible Mother Nature can be. The colors  of the hot spring are actually the colors of bacteria growing at different temperature levels of the water. This is the most impressive scene of Yellowstone.

[Daily Photo] Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park

This photo was taken at Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park. The buildings in this photo are Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins. We were very lucky to book a cabin for one night. However, the cabin we booked was Budget Cabins. It didn't have a private bathroom. You had to use the nearby shared bathroom. Be sure to bring a flashlight when you go to the bathroom at night.

[Daily Photo] Abyss Pool in West Thumb Geyser Basin, Yellowstone

This is the Abyss Pool in West Thumb Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. For the hot springs of Yellowstone, you can judge their temperature difference from the colors because different colors of bacteria grow at different temperature levels of the water. Therefore, in this photo you can find blue color in the center of the pool. The color changes from blue to green to yellow when it is close to the fringe of the pool.

This photo of Opal pool was taken at Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. It was the first day of our Yellowstone journey. We started from Grant Village to Norris. I had to call it "the day of geysers". It felt like I had seen all the geysers in my life in one day.

This is one of the falls in Yellowstone. There are many spots to see falls in Yellowstone, and you can drive from one spot to the other. If you like hiking, you can also walk to observation decks that are really close to the falls, just like the one in the second photo (It's a closeup from the first photo). We didn't visit that observation deck in our journey.

I took this photo of a yellow-bellied marmot in Yellowstone. We were leaving Yellowstone that morning and when we drove by Yellowstone Lake, we saw this marmot running across the road sitting on a stone on the lakeshore. I took this photo from our car.

I took this photo at Mammoth Hot Springs of Yellowstone. This place is incredibly beautiful, not only the colors of the stone, but the varietes of the terrain. The terrain on the upper part of this photo looks like slopes, and the terrain on the lower part looks like terraces(梯田).



The second photo is the enlargement of the first photo. You can see the detail of the terrain.

[Daily Photo] American bison

This photo of American bison was taken in Yellowston. We found hordes of American bisons on our way from the Roosevelt to the Northeast Entrance. They were having dinner at that time. The expression of this male bison was so cute (note his tongue is out).
Recently I learned from TV that the lives of bisons in Yellowstone are very harsh during winter. In winter, Yellowstone is covered with thick snow. The only food sources are in the areas near the hot springs and geysers. However, the grasses and alge in this area are poisonous, so the bisons were slowly poisoned by the food they ate. In addition, the sulfur in the air near the hot spring also poisons the bisons. It was summer when I took this photo. They all look so carefree and leisurely. It's hard to imagine that they will had a hard time in winter.

[Daily Photo] Heart Spring in Yellowstone

This is the Heart Spring in Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone. The spring got its name from the heart-like shape of the crater. There is also Lion Geyser located at the right center of this photo (the small, white hump with steam).

[Daily Photo] Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

This is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a river-eroded geyser basin. The hot acidic water from the geysers and hot springs made the volcanic rocks vulnarable and brittle; therefore, the erodsion is fast and the rocks are colorful. In this photo, you can see various colors of rocks made by the hot acidic water.
